Mission WorkJesus made it very clear that love for him meant that his people were to also love and care for those in need. As a congregation we are constantly challenged and growing in our understanding of what it means to be in mission and how we live that out. In addition to supporting various mission work with our financial resources we also participate in a number local and national projects that seek to meet the needs of those outside our church walls. In recent years we have had many from our church join with other Methodist Churches to help with the rebuilding effort on the Gulf Coast in response to the damage left by numerous hurricanes. We regularly have groups serve a variety of needs in the city of Rochester, including clean up days and serving meals at the Asbury Dinning Center. Both our youth ministry and Men's Club sponsor afternoon and overnight projects that are open to anyone who is interested. Participants in mission work at Honeoye Falls UMC often find that they are challenged and refreshed in their faith, have a great time with those they serve with, and have made a real difference in the life of others.
As a congregation we have recognized three areas of focus for our mission work. We believe that Jesus is calling to us help further establish God's Kingdom by giving of our time and resources locally, nationally and internationally. Below are just some of the projects we are involved in as we live this out.
National Mission Project:
In April of 2010, we will send a team of individuals to work camp in the Appalachia Mountains at the Red Bird Mission. More about what Red Bird Mission does for the people of Appalachia can be found on their website: http://www.rbmission.org/
